Alexa's brutal response to a father's request for parenting advice left him speechless. This is what happened

After asking Alexa how to make his children stop laughing, a father was left stunned by the shocking response he received. The 45-year-old claimed the device advised that he "punch his kids in the throat" in a video he posted online.

After an online post collected all the weird things Alexa could say, the Sheffield Cafe owner started asking Alexa questions to figure out what Alexa would say. In the short video, he is seen asking the virtual assistant how to stop his kids from laughing excessively. The response took him by shock, although it was expected.

The device said you could punch them if appropriate, according to an Alexa Answers contributor. It is unlikely that they will not laugh if they are writhing in pain and unable to breathe.

With Alexa Answers, users can submit answers to questions that Alexa does not have an answer to; Alexa Answers comes up with this answer, so that it can provide information into the device that can be read out as answers to other people's unusual questions.

The study showed that children have a "very deep sense that robots are not people, and they did not want that line blurred," said Alexis Hiniker, a UW assistant professor. But it's still possible that conversations with an agent might subtly influence children's habits -- such as using a particular type of language or conversational tone.
