After upgrading his heating system using the £25,000 Government-backed 'green' pump, a man claimed he was facing a startling £7,000 power bill. Authorities are offering subsidies of up to £5,000 to households replacing their gas heating and hot water systems with a heat pump. He obtained a £5,000 government subsidy for the pump but still does not view the conversion as economically viable. He claims that two other households in his hamlet with heat pumps have similar problems, with one needing to use two wood-burning burners alongside their system in colder weather.
