After upgrading his heating system using the £25,000 Government-backed 'green' pump, a man claimed he was facing a startling £7,000 power bill. Authorities are offering subsidies of up to £5,000 to households replacing their gas heating and hot water systems with a heat pump. However, the new approach, which numerous members of the green community support, appears to have left many UK households out in the cold, according to reports.
How does the air pump work?
The air pump, which uses the same concept as freezers, takes heat from the surrounding air and then into the building and can be powered by renewable energy, making it cleaner and greener.
However, with Europe's highest power bills and least-insulated households, adopters are calculating the cost of turning green. Steve, a business owner from Harlaxton, Lincolnshire, who began using the system in July, stated that the equipment cost £17,000, plus an additional £10,000 for installation.

Steve stated that they had set the interior temperatures to 17 ℉ to conserve money and that they have a wood burner eating its way through the woods and blowing smoke up the chimney. He expects his monthly power expense to be around £1,000 and his yearly bill to be almost double that of his prior setup.
He obtained a £5,000 government subsidy for the pump but still does not view the conversion as economically viable. He claims that two other households in his hamlet with heat pumps have similar problems, with one needing to use two wood-burning burners alongside their system in colder weather.

FAQs:
What exactly does a heat pump do? The heat pump warms the house pleasantly during the cold months, but when temperatures drop, the boiler assists the heat pump in heating the house more.
What has the government said about the development? The government is yet to speak on this, though SWNS has contacted them.
