Sir Keir Starmer was put on the spot by BBC Breakfast preseter Sally Nugent on Wednesday morning when she questioned him about working with suspended MP Rupa Huq. Labour leader Keir Starmer, presently attending the party's convention in Liverpool, was interviewed by hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent.

Nugent enquired about Rupa Huq, who had been suspended for making disparaging remarks against Kwasi Kwarteng. Starmer squirmed, trying to think of anything to say. An investigation has been launched in response to Ms Huq's assertion that Kwarteng was superficially black. She has formally apologised after receiving backlash from her Labour colleagues for the insulting remarks. Starmer put Nugent in charge by asking, "What was there to investigate?"

According to the Labour leader, what she said was racist. Nugent pressed the MP even further, asking if he wanted her fired. However, Starmer sidestepped the topic by stating that it has been sent to an independent mechanism, which will now determine the conclusion of that specific case.
