Popular TV presenter Adam Hills has apologised after a World Cup parody song that featured on The Last Leg received widespread criticism. The song started with a repetition of "It's (be)coming home-ophobic" and was performed to the tune of "Three Lions." The sports comedy show shared its version of the "anthem" for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after England defeated Iran by 6-2 on November 21.

The parody song caused upset as it references several controversies related to Qatar, the host country for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The song references the illegality of homosexuality and the mistreatment of migrant workers in Qatar.




Adam was quick to respond to the backlash. He apologised and said that the parody song was a protest at the FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar, where being gay is illegal. He also clarified that the controversial segment was filmed before the horrific shooting at the LGBTQ+ venue, Club Q, in Colorado Springs on November 19. The mass shooting claimed five lives and left 18 injured.

Meanwhile, FIFA is also facing public ire for choosing Qatar as the host country for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Football legend David Beckham is also facing criticism for signing a £10 million deal to become an ambassador for the World Cup.
