Friends is an American television sitcom created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons.
Actor Lisa Kudrow was questioned recently about Marta Kauffman's recent remarks about the lack of diversity on the show 'Friends' during an interview with 'The Daily Beast'.
Kudrow stated, "Well, I feel like it was a sitcom made by two Brandeis alumni, who wrote about their experiences after college." And for programmes specifically, when it's going to be a comedy with strong characters, you write what you know. They have no right to write tales about what it's like to be a person of colour. Where was the apprenticeship, I believe, was the major issue at that time?
The Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman acknowledged in an L.A. Times article that she formerly thought it was "unfair" to criticise the lack of diversity in the programme.

In the previous 20 years, I've learned a lot, Kauffman added. "Accepting guilt is difficult to do. It hurts to look at oneself in the mirror. I'm sorry I didn't understand properly 25 years ago. She has made amends for this by creating a Professorship named the Marta F. Kauffman '78, which is in African and African American Studies, according to the L.A. Times. It "will help a talented scholar with an accumulation in the study of the individuals and cultures of Africa and the African diaspora."
The accusations made against Amaani Lyle, who worked as a writer's assistant for Friends during its sixth season, further damage the show's reputation.
