At least six officers from the Metropolitan Police were caught for being high while working after consumption of drugs, such as cocaine, benzodiazepines and opiates.
According to reports, six Metropolitan Police officers were high on narcotics while working recently. Last year, two cops tested positive for cannabis while on duty, while two more failed tests for ingesting class-A cocaine. As per reports, another Met officer had evidence of opiates in the system, including morphine, and the sixth officer had residues of benzodiazepines and amphetamines in the system.

According to the FOI data, 16 officers in England and Wales failed drug tests while being on duty in the previous year. A Met spokesperson said that the vast majority of Metropolitan Police officers uphold and adhere to the excellent standards required of our officers.

They said it was a difficult job, but the public and the Met demanded the highest standards from our officers. These principles apply to police both on and off duty. He stressed that if the goal is not met, the police must be held accountable for their conduct. We recognise that there is more we can do, and we have already added over 100 officers to our professional standards department to investigate misbehaviour.

Reportedly, the number of police personnel, who use narcotics is a tiny percentage, and offenders may lose their employment or face criminal charges in the most extreme situations.

It comes after a devastating study determined that police in the Met are getting away with breaching the law and committing misconduct, and that hundreds should be fired.
