21-year-old footballer Mason Greenwood case: Hearings set for 2023

Mason Greenwood, a 21-year-old footballer, was held after allegations were levelled against him by a woman. Reports say he was re-bailed ahead of a pre-trial hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

The pre-trial hearing of the court is scheduled on February 10, 2023. Another trial date set by the court in the next year is November 27, 2023.

Until now, the footballer spoke at the court only once during the proceedings. That was to confirm his details, like his address, birth date and name. The proceedings lasted for 10 odd minutes. And now, it is expected that the court will hold the trial for more than 10 days.


In October, the same court granted bail to Mason on preset terms and conditions, which included not contacting the complainant or witnesses.



The footballer is charged with attempted rape and assault that caused bodily harm to the victim. This incident happened in October 2021. Between November 2018 and October 2022, Mason Greenwood showed controlling and coercive behaviour towards the complainant. He is alleged to send derogatory comments to a woman. And he also monitored the social media accounts of the victim.
Within a few hours of the allegations, Mason was suspended from training and playing for Old Trafford club. Nike, a sports firm, terminated the sponsorship deals with the footballer.
