1985 Ford Escort driven by Princess Diana auctioned off. Check out how much it fetched

The Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1 driven by Diana, Princess of Wales sold for about eighty-five thousand pounds at auction at the Silverstone circuit in England on Saturday. The Silverstone website describes the car as the last Ford Escort of the Princess of Wales, with a mileage of about twenty-five thousand miles.

This car was owned by the Princess of Wales from 1985 to 1988. Princess Diana had 6,800 miles on it before returning it to Ford and was often seen driving the car through Chelsea and Kensington.

According to Silverstone's website, it had several owners after being returned to Ford.


Auction winners are not listed on the website. The RS Turbo Series 1 was normally built in white, but the Royal Police requested that Diana’s car be painted black following the Royal Family Protocols for discretion.

It was a very bold choice on the part of the Princess to drive the car, Silverstone Auctions classic car specialist told Reuters earlier this week.

Next week marks the 25th anniversary of Diana's death at the age of 36. The vehicle in which Diana was a passenger crashed in Paris inside a tunnel as she sped away from the photographers and media surrounding her like vultures on a motorcycle.

The Princess is widely remembered for her friendly nature and humanitarian works and projects she took up during her lifetime. Despite having a failing marriage with the Prince, she continues to be a beacon of kindness from the British Royal Family. The mass love and fandom of Princess Diana are unlike any other Royal family member has ever experienced.

The princess is also remembered for her bold fashion choices and of course who can forget her iconic wedding dress.
