DUBAI: Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways on Wednesday said it would restart direct flights to Doha next month and Qatar Airways said it will resume flights to the United Arab Emirates later this month, after the countries agreed to restore ties.

Flights between the UAE and Qatar, both major air transport hubs, have been suspended since mid-2017 when the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Doha over allegations it supported extremist groups. Qatar has denied the charges.

The Arab countries this month ended the more than three-year row which had severed diplomatic and trade ties, in addition to travel links.

Etihad, owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, said daily flights to the Qatari capital would resume from Feb. 15.

Qatar Airways said in a post on Twitter it would resume flights to Dubai on Jan. 27 and to Abu Dhabi on Jan. 28.

UAE carrier Air Arabia resumed direct flights between Sharjah and Doha this month.
