The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a series of temporary traffic diversions for major infrastructure upgrades. The works include improvements to rainwater and groundwater drainage systems and road resurfacing at multiple underpasses across the city.

The diversions will begin on June 28, 2025, and are expected to continue for two months.

Mudon Underpass – Emirates Road


The first diversion will affect the Mudon Underpass on Emirates Road. The upgrade work at this location includes enhancements to the drainage network and resurfacing of the road.

Recommended alternative routes for motorists include:

  • Underpass 7 – A U-turn route towards Jebel Ali
  • Hessa Street leading to Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Street, heading towards Dubai

Al Barari Underpass – Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road


Another key location under diversion is the Al Barari Underpass on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Similar to the Mudon site, this project aims to upgrade the drainage infrastructure and improve road surfaces.

To avoid traffic delays in this route in Dubai, alternatives for drivers include:

  • Dubai–Al Ain Bridge – U-turn towards Jebel Ali
  • Global Village Underpass and Umm Suqeim Street intersection – U-turn towards Sharjah

Umm Al Daman Underpass – Dubai–Al Ain Road

In addition to the above, the RTA has also announced a temporary diversion at the Umm Al Daman Underpass located on Dubai–Al Ain Road. This site will undergo work to improve the drainage systems and resurface the road.

Drivers in this area can use the Umm Nahad Bridge (Intersection 4), which provides a U-turn route towards Dubai.

The RTA has issued an advisory for all motorists to plan trips ahead of time, leave early to avoid delays, and follow all posted traffic signs and directions.
