Dubai Roads Authority completes new projects in Business Bay to smooth traffic, cut travel time and enhance road capacity by 100%

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has concluded a series of road improvement projects to mitigate traffic congestion in the city's buzzing Business Bay area. To maximise the street capacity and expand it by 100 per cent, a two-lane, two-way street parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road was modified into a one-way dual carriageway. This move, accompanied by updated signage and road markings, has also smoothed the traffic flow.

The project initiated by Dubai’s RTA aims to enhance traffic flow and road safety in the Business Bay area. It involves enlarging and broadening several locations along the street, which connects directly to Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, according to local media reports.

All the steps taken as part of the project improve traffic flow, boost safety, and cut down travel time. These benefits make the overall experience of road users better.


Business Bay, a key area of Dubai, sees a variety of residential, commercial, and service facilities. According to Khaleej Times, there are several other additions done, including a 100-metre-long storage lane at the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street with Al Khaleej Al Tejari 1 Street to increase right-turn capacity towards First Al Khail Street by up to 50 per cent. The lane reduces congestion and also shortens waiting times, boosting the intersection’s capacity and level of service.

There were more improvements that were brought in where the service road parallel to Al Mustaqbal Street was reorganised. A lane was also introduced to accommodate the rising flow of traffic. All these planned steps also contributed to boosting the capacity of the road by approximately 50 per cent and reduced traffic conflicts, enhancing overall traffic movement.
