Toyota posts record first-half profit, lifts forecast

Toyota Motor Corp reported on Wednesday a 16.3 per cent rise in first-half operating profit to a new record high and lifted its full-year forecast as it enjoys brisk sales overseas.

TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp reported on Wednesday a 16.3 per cent rise in first-half operating profit to a new record high and lifted its full-year forecast as it enjoys brisk sales overseas.

Operating profit rose to 1.27 trillion yen (11.1 billion dollars) in the six months to September, up from 1.09 trillion yen a year earlier, helped by a weaker yen which is positive for export earnings, a company statement said.

Net profit jumped 21.3 per cent to 942.41 billion yen as revenue grew by 13.4 per cent to 13.01 trillion yen.

Toyota, which is neck-and-neck with General Motors for the rank of the world's top-selling automaker, upgraded its outlook for the full fiscal year to March.

It now expects an operating profit of 2.30 trillion yen, better than a previous forecast of 2.25 trillion.
