MUMBAI: Paris Chamber of Commerce, the biggest industry body in Europe, on Monday announced setting up of its liasion office here to attract Indian students and develop economic linkages between Indian and French companies.
"We are looking for alliances with Indian universities and also want to invite Indian students to business schools like HEC School of Management, Paris which was recently ranked among the top 20 in the world," Chamber President Pierre Simon told reporters here.
Initially, it would be a student exchange programme and later it could look at offering dual degrees with the Indian university, Chamber Vice-President Education Department Jean-paul Vermes said.
He added the French government was taking steps to relax visa norms for Indian students aspiring to study in French universities. Notably, only 2,000-odd students travel to France to undertake various courses.
With its liasion office, the Chamber will help French companies increase their presence in India and educate their personnel on future requirements. It will also assist companies to organise conventions and trade fairs.
"It is a perfect time for us to set up office here in India. We plan to get a delegation of French SMEs in November to hold business-to-business meetings," Simone said, adding the focus is now on sector-specific interactions in the fields of biotech and infrastructure among others.
