Those behind French bank losses must take blame: Sarkozy

The crisis at French bank Caisse d'Epargne is "unacceptable" and those responsible for its losses must "bear the consequences," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday.

QUEBEC CITY: The crisis at French bank Caisse d'Epargne is "unacceptable" and those responsible for its losses must "bear the consequences," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday.

"My feeling is that it is unacceptable, that everything points to an absurd lack of responsibility," said Sarkozy at a press conference during an EU-Canada summit in Quebec City.

The loss -- which Sarkozy put at 640 million euros (850 million dollars) -- "is enough so that those responsible should know they will bear the consequences".
