However, the recent order to block its website in Thailand has remained intact, he said
The ICT Ministry last week blocked the popular video-sharing website YouTube (www.youtube.com) indefinitely after it showed a sequence of video clips considered insulting to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Labelling YouTube and Google Inc as hypocritical, Sitthichai said Google has ignored Thailand's petition because the kingdom is a small country, while it agreed to censor its search engine in China.
"Google cited freedom of information as the reason for not exercising censorship here but it earlier agreed to censor its website in China as it is a powerful country," he lambasted.
The Chinese version of the Google search engine, Google.cn, was launched in January 2006 amid controversy after the company agreed to censor itself to satisfy the authorities in Beijing.
He said the government would send a letter to YouTube and Google to explain the reasons the clips were offensive to the King.
"we had discussed with Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram over the possibility of removing the YouTube clips," he said.
