Tata Steel to invest over Rs 15 cr at Hartlepool works in UK
Tata Steel said it will put in GBP 2 million (over Rs 15 crore) in Hartlepool tube works in the UK to cater to the renewable energy sector.
"This investment reinforces Tata Steel's commitment to establishing a significant presence as a supplier to the renewables sector as the drive to transform the energy supply scene in the EU gathers pace," Ramsay Ross, a Director for tubes at Tata Steel, said in a statement.
Growing activity in renewables sector would require large volumes of jacket fabrications for wind tower structures, it said, adding that work on the site would begin this month and completed by Spring next year.
"The Hartlepool development will establish a central supply base for steel tubular sections to be used in the fabrication of wind turbine steel foundation structures, known as jacket foundations," it added. The company has also inked a supply agreement with German steel tube producer Eisenbau Krämer (EBK).
