Taiwan's Acer net profit up 14 pc

Acer Inc said its net profit for the third quarter rose 14 per cent from a year earlier on a revival in global demand.

TAIPEI: Taiwan's personal computer maker Acer Inc said on Friday its net profit for the third quarter rose 14 per cent from a year earlier on a revival in global demand.

In the July-September period, Acer posted a net profit of 3.47 billion Taiwan dollars (107 million US dollars), compared with 3.04 billion dollars a year ago.

Due to the economic recovery, replacement activities were on the rise, Acer said.

"Although demand remained price-sensitive, buyers were willing to pay for value-added applications and features," the company said in a statement.

In the past three months, Acer's sales totalled 167.62 billion dollars, compared with 159.16 billion dollars last year, the company said.
