COLOMBO: Sri Lankan war planes hit Tamil Tiger positions in the north of the island on Tuesday, killing two civilians, the guerrillas said.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) said the village attacked by Israeli-built Kfir jets this morning had no rebel installations.
"Aarasankulam is a civilian village and there are no military installations. Our rescue team is presently at the spot and report that the casualties could increase as they continue with their search and rescue operations," the rebels said.
The LTTE said the military had also carried out two claymore mine attacks inside the territory held by them today, but the attacks missed their intended targets. There was no immediate reaction from the military.
