NEW DELHI: Industry body FICCI on Wednesday expressed concern over the latest discussion paper on agriculture at WTO, saying it puts less demand on rich nations to reduce their subsidies and limits the extent to which the developing countries can protect their farm sector.
"The agriculture paper circulated by Agricultural Committee Chairman Crawford Falconer on the issue of state-of -play of WTO negotiation on agriculture has lowered the ambition of subsidy reduction for developed countries," FICCI said in a release.
It has also limited the scope of provision of list of special products for developing countries under which they are seeking protection for some of their agriculture products, it said.
The suggestions in the paper may not bring out any effective reduction of subsidies in developed countries and the issue of reduction in domestic support should be considered comprehensively by looking at all measures of support including Green Box, the chamber said.
