SKorea's LG releases 'Koran TV' in Mideast

SEOUL: South Korea's largest home appliance maker LG Electronics said on Tuesday that it has released a new television in Middle Eastern markets which includes the Koran installed as a digital text.

The model comes in 42 and 50-inch panels and lets viewers read all 114 chapters of the Islamic holy book on screen by controlling its menu, LG said in a statement.

The television, which also comes with a 160-gigabyte hard drive to store video content, allows users to bookmark up to 10 spots within the religious text.

"We came up with the model after realising that faithful Muslims read the Koran on a daily basis," said Park Jong-Seok, vice president of LG's plasma display panel division.

Last year LG said it aimed to post six bn dollars in sales of home appliances in Middle Eastern and African countries by 2010 by providing products that will appeal more to local consumers.
