MOSCOW: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday said Moscow will resume gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine after it has struck an agreement with Ukraine on the transit, Russian news agencies reported.

In a phone conversation with Bulgarian President Georgy Parvanov, "the Russian president underlined that Russia is ready to fulfil its commitments and resume the transit of gas after reaching a corresponding agreement with Ukraine," a statement from the Kremlin press office was quoted as saying.

Bulgaria, which is entirely dependent on Russia for its natural gas needs, has been one of the European states worst hit by the cut in Russian supplies via Ukraine.
