MOSCOW: An unmanned Russian cargo ship blasted off Thursday for the international space station, carrying supplies, equipment and gifts for the international space station, officials said.

Mission Control spokesman Valery Lyndin said that the Progress M-64 lifted off as scheduled at 00:23 a.m. Thursday (2023 GMT Wednesday) from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

``The launch was conducted without a hitch, and the ship successfully entered a designated orbit'' en route to the station, Lyndin said.

The ship is set to dock at the station Saturday. Lyndin said the cargo ship is carrying about 2.3 metric tons (2.5 short tons) of oxygen, water and food for the crew _ U.S. astronaut Garrett Reisman and Russian cosmonauts Sergei Volkov and Oleg Kononenko. He said it is also delivering equipment and scientific experiments.
