Romanian carmaker Dacia rolls out low-emissions model

Romania's leading carmaker, Dacia, has introduced its latest make a low-emissions hatchback called the Sandero.

BUCHAREST/ROMANIA: Romania's leading carmaker, Dacia, has introduced its latest make a low-emissions hatchback called the Sandero.

The Renault subsidiary hopes the new model will attract customers looking for a car with low maintenance and repair costs and low CO2 emissions.

The new model starts at euro6,890 (US$10,740). The company began taking orders in Romania on Wednesday. The car will also be sold in Western Europe, North Africa and Turkey. Production costs for the new make reached euro147 million (US$229 million).

Renault SA has invested euro1 billion (US$1.56 billion) in the Romanian carmaker since buying it in 1998. In the last four years, Dacia sold more than 700,000 of its popular low-budget Logan family sedans in 50 countries.
