Rockefeller family push for change at Exxon: WSJ

Descendants of John D Rockefeller, noteworthy shareholders of Exxon Mobil Corp, are asking it to change its corporate governance and look closely at the future of global energy supply.

NEW YORK: Descendants of John D Rockefeller, noteworthy shareholders of Exxon Mobil Corp, are asking it to change its corporate governance and look closely at the future of global energy supply, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

Several Rockefeller family members will hold a news conference on Wednesday to discuss their concerns about Exxon's direction, the report said.

A majority of the family have voted to support shareholder resolutions at an annual meeting in May that include urging Exxon to cut greenhouse-gas emissions and see if it should take a more active role in developing sustainable energy technologies, the report said.

The family is worried that Exxon's senior management is too busy with everyday issues to question the future of fossil fuels, the Journal said.

Quoting people close to the family, the report also said the Rockefeller family was generally happy with the company's chairman and chief executive Rex Tillerson.

Exxon officials were not immediately available for comment.
