RIM Q3 jumps 59 pc to $628.4 mn

Maker of BlackBerry smartphone, Research In Motion, has reported a 59 per cent jump in net income at $628.4 million for the third quarter of 2010 on account of higher sales and new subscribers.

TORONTO/NEW DELHI: Maker of BlackBerry smartphone, Research In Motion, has reported a 59 per cent jump in net income at $628.4 million for the third quarter of 2010 on account of higher sales and new subscribers.

The company had a net income of $396.3 million in the same period last year, RIM said in a statement.

Revenue rose to $3.92 billion in the third quarter ended November 28 from $2.78 billion in the same quarter last year.

During the quarter, RIM shipped about 10.1 million devices, including its 75 millionth BlackBerry smartphone.

"We are pleased to report record shipments of more than 10 million BlackBerry smartphones during the third quarter with higher than expected revenue, earnings and subscriber growth," RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie said.

The company has added about 4.4 million new BlackBerry subscriber in the quarter under review taking the subscriber account base to about 36 million.
