Rice arrives in Japan for G8 talks

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived Thursday in Japan for a meeting of the Group of Eight foreign ministers expected to focus on North Korea's nuclear programme.

OSAKA: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived Thursday in Japan for a meeting of the Group of Eight foreign ministers expected to focus on North Korea's nuclear programme.

Rice landed in the western city of Osaka and headed to the nearby city of Kyoto for the two-day talks, an AFP reporter with her said.

The meeting of the G8, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States is set to focus on North Korea, which is expected Thursday to make an overdue declaration of its nuclear programmes.
