Recession shows signs of waning: ECB chief Trichet

European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet, who chaired a meeting of central bankers, said the global economy is showing signs of emerging from its worst recession in more than 60 years.

BASEL: European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet, who chaired a meeting of central bankers, said the global economy is showing signs of emerging from its worst recession in more than 60 years.

Latest indicators have been better than anticipated and stabilisation is ���something which seems to be confirmed at the global level,��� Trichet said. Still, ���it���s not excluded that we would have a bumpy road ahead and of course alertness remains of the essence,��� he said.

Trichet met in Basel with his counterparts from the world���s largest central banks including BoJ governor Masaaki Shirakawa.
