Prince William served up burgers from a food truck on the streets of South London to highlight environmentally friendly plant-based "Earthshot Burgers". The burgers were made using ingredients from the winners of his annual Earthshot Prize, aimed...

According to Prince William, the ingredients inside the burger are from a greenhouse in India from a company called Kheyti. According to the website of Earthshot Prize, the Indian start-up Kheyti has developed Greenhouse-in-a-Box designed for small-hold farmers and the crops they grow, offering shelter from unpredictable elements and destructive pests. Kheyti also trains and supports farmers to ensure their greenhouse is as effective as possible.
"The results are dramatic. Plants in the greenhouse require 98 percent less water than those outdoors and yields are seven-times higher. Ninety percent cheaper than a standard greenhouse, they are more than doubling farmers’ incomes, helping them invest more in their farms and their children’s education. Using less water and fewer pesticides, they are protecting the planet too," says Earthshot Prize website.
Prince Williams had teamed up with the founders of YouTube channel Sorted Food which reviews kitchen gadgets and shares recipes to raise the profile and work of three previous Earthshot prize winners.
"Coming right up," the heir to the British throne handed out said as he served up the burgers to the stunned customers. "Morning everyone, nicely cooked, ready to go."
"So the box you're about to eat in is built by a company called Notpla and there's no plastic involved, they've come up with a seaweed coating," the prince told the customers at the burger van.
"The ingredients inside the burger are grown from a greenhouse in India from a company called Kheyti, and last but not least, the way we cook them has been on a thing called Mukuru Clean Stoves, and that is designed by a lady in Kenya who came up with the concept to reduce air pollution."
Some of the customers were shocked to see Prince William serving them burgers. "We are still shocked," said a customer. Another said: "My brain took 3 seconds to buffer."
Coming back to the burger itself, one of the customers said: "The burger was so good."
