Poland's jobless rate steady at 10.8 pc

WARSAW: Poland's unemployment rate remained unchanged in August at 10.8 percent, the labor minister said Monday.

Jolanta Fedak was quoted by the PAP news agency as saying that unemployment remained at the same level as in July. In June, it stood at 10.7 percent.

The ministry estimate comes weeks ahead of official statistical figures _ which, however, seldom differ significantly from the forecast. Poland's unemployment rate has risen during the economic crisis from 8.8 percent in October.
