PCB set to sign USD 9 million contract with Dubai Sports City

The PCB will soon ink a USD nine million three-year contract with the Dubai Sports City to play one-dayers and twenty20 matches there due to the international teams' reluctance to tour Pakistan owing to security fears.

KARACHI: The PCB will soon ink a USD nine million three-year contract with the Dubai Sports City to play one-dayers and twenty20 matches there due to the international teams' reluctance to tour Pakistan owing to security fears.

A senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said that claims by the previous regime in the board, that it had signed the contract with Dubai Sports City, were not correct in the sense that the contract signing was not completed.

"There is a contract with the Dubai sports city but no one had signed it on behalf of the PCB. But this will now be done by new Chairman Ejaz Butt," the official said.

He said under a new understanding if India agrees to play in any tournament in Dubai, Pakistan will get additional payments for it as contests between the two countries attract good marketing and sponsorship revenues.

The official said PCB's Director (Cricket Operations), Zakir Khan was in Dubai and had negotiated the new terms of contract with the DSC. South Africa and Sri Lanka will compete with Pakistan in the first event of the three-year contract next year.
