Panasonic recalls over 360,000 refrigerators in China

Japanese electronics giant Panasonic Corp has launched a recall of more than 360,000 refrigerators in China due to a faulty valve that could be a fire hazard under extreme conditions.

BEIJING: Japanese electronics giant Panasonic Corp has launched a recall of more than 360,000 refrigerators in China due to a faulty valve that could be a fire hazard under extreme conditions.

Panasonic said it would recall 365,574 refrigerators made between March 2007 and March 2009, according to a statement on its Chinese website issued Wednesday.

In hot and humid conditions, the defective valve can cause the temperature inside the recalled refrigerators to get too high or too low.

Under extreme conditions, the faulty valve can leak a cooling agent which can cause the refrigerators to catch fire, it said.

Panasonic said it would repair the refrigerators at no cost to the owners.
