Oracle hires HP's ex-CEO as President
Oracle Corp has hired Mark Hurd, the former chief Executive of technology giant Hewlett- Packard's (HP), as the President of the company
Hurd, who had quit HP in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment last month, will report to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison in his new role.
Besides, Hurd has also been selected as a director on the company's board, the software firm Oracle said in a statement.
"Mark did a brilliant job at HP and I expect he'll do even better at Oracle. There is no executive in the IT world with more relevant experience than Mark. Mark pioneered the integration of hardware with software when Teradata was a part of NCR," said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison.
With Hurd's wide experience in the technology business, HP became one of the biggest personal computers makers and server systems and the largest technology company by revenue.
Oracle, which has a significant presence in India, employs more than 25,000 employees in the country.
Hurd, will replace Charles Phillips who has resigned from Oracle, revealed plans to announce launch of new systems, including Exadata, at Oracle OpenWorld later this month.
"I believe Oracle's strategy of combining software with hardware will enable Oracle to beat IBM in both enterprise servers and storage. Exadata is just the beginning," Hurd said.
Oracle OpenWorld is the world's largest information technology event dedicated to helping enterprises understand how to harness the power of information, while Exadata is a software co-developed by Oracle and HP.
Hurd was considered one of the most successful executives in the US before he resigned from HP in early August, following allegations of sexual harassment by a former marketing contractor in the company.
However, HP's board cleared the harassment charges after an internal investigation. It, however, found that Hurd had violated HP's code of business conduct, such as filing inaccurate expense reports.
