Northrop Grumman to lay off 750 workers

Northrop Grumman Corp. says it will lay off 750 workers, most of them in Southern California. The Los Angeles-based aerospace company announced the cutbacks were needed as it consolidates administrative staffs in El Segundo and Redondo Beach.

LOS ANGELES: Northrop Grumman Corp. says it will lay off 750 workers, most of them in Southern California. The Los Angeles-based aerospace company, the second-largest U.S. military contractor with more than 120,000 employees worldwide, announced Wednesday the cutbacks were needed as it consolidates administrative staffs in El Segundo and Redondo Beach.

Northrop said in January it was merging the aircraft-making Integrated Systems unit in El Segundo with the satellite-making Space Technology unit in Redondo Beach.

Northrop spokesman Dan McClain says the work force will likely expand soon, noting that the combined unit has more than 850 vacancies for skilled, technical jobs in engineering and manufacturing.
