TOKYO: Japanese automakers Nissan and Mitsubishi plan to expand their production alliance by widening the line-up of vehicles to be marketed under each others' names, a news report said Tuesday.

Under the plan, Nissan Motor would start supplying another sedan model to Mitsubishi Motors, while Mitsubishi would offer additional mini-vehicles to Nissan, the Asahi Shimbun said on its website.

The two companies have already agreed on an Original Equipment Manufacturing accord under which Nissan is providing commercial vehicles for Mitsubishi, which is in return making four mini-vehicle models for Nissan.

The two companies said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn and Mitsubishi Motors president Osamu Masuko would appear at a Tokyo joint news conference at 3:30pm (0630 GMT), but they declined to confirm the report.
