Drivers Zack Staley and Justin Halverson fight after a collision during NASCAR’s 2025 season opener at Bowman Gray Stadium
A NASCAR race turned into a wrestling match for two drivers who were involved in a crash. On the opening night of the 2025 season on Saturday (April 19) at the historic Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, US, a fight broke out between drivers Zack Staley and Justin Halverson during the race.

The confrontation began after the cars of the two drivers collided on the track, leading to both exiting their vehicles and engaging in a physical fight. The situation escalated quickly, prompting multiple people to intervene and pull them apart.

The NASCAR broadcast captured the moment, stating, “Staley’s out of the car! Staley’s out of the car! He falls out of the car. He’s got the helmet off. Open face, gloves off! [Alverson] is trying to get out of the car ferociously. A takedown! They’re trying to restrain an absolutely enraged Zach Staley.”

The NASCAR Regional X account shared the full video of the incident at the track, which is nicknamed the "Madhouse".

Fans expressed their frustration on social media over the drivers' behavior during the incident.

“This is a circus. Not racing,” one user commented.

Another added, “Embarrassing. Not sure why anyone would cheer this kind of behaviour. Both drivers should be suspended.”

NASCAR officials have yet to comment on this incident. Further investigations are expected to determine any disciplinary actions.

This incident adds to a series of recent confrontations in NASCAR. In May 2024, during the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch were involved in a physical altercation following an on-track incident. Stenhouse Jr. was fined $75,000, the largest fine for fighting in NASCAR history, while his father and two crew members received suspensions.
