Dedicating his 2025 Masters Tournament win to his parents and daughter Poppy, an emotional Rory McIlroy was joined at the victory ceremony by Poppy and his wife Erica. McIlroy achieved a career Grand Slam with his win at Augusta National Golf Club on April 13, achieving a career Grand Slam by defeating Justin Rose in a one-hole playoff.

In the Butler Cabin ceremony, McIlroy became emotional as he acknowledged his parents. “I want to say hello to my mum and dad, they're back at home in Northern Ireland. I can't wait to see them next week and celebrate this with them.”

He then addressed his Poppy. “They’ve been on this journey with me the whole way through. They know the burden I’ve had to come here every year to try and try again. One thing I’d say to my daughter Poppy is never give up on your dreams. Never, ever give up on your dreams. Keep coming back, keep working hard and if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.”

McIlroy’s feat at the 2025 Masters Tournament came 14 years after he missed winning the title in 2011. He is now the sixth golfer in history to win all four major championships, joining an illustrious list of golfers which include Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

But the path to the title was not an easy one for McIlroy. Even though he started the final day with a two-shot lead, double bogeys on the first and 13th holes saw his nearest rival Justin Rose fighting back spiritedly to make a comeback.

On the 17th hole, McIlroy recovered the lost ground with a birdie, sending the match into a playoff as he tied with Rose at 11-under par.

On the first playoff hole, also the 18th, McIlroy’s approach shot landed within kick-in range. Rose missed his birdie putt, securing the victory for McIlroy.

“I’ve got to go and get a green jacket!” McIlroy exclaimed after the final putt.
