The Chiefs pulled off a stunning 35-19 comeback win over the Crusaders in Christchurch on Saturday, May 10, storming back from a nine-point halftime deficit to take control at the top of the Super Rugby Pacific ladder.

The Crusaders were dominant in the first half. Tries from Tom Christie, Scott Barrett, and Antonio Shalfoon helped the home side take a 19-10 lead at the break. The Chiefs looked under pressure, but a crucial try by Emoni Narawa just before halftime kept them in the game.

The second half was all about the Chiefs. Damian McKenzie sparked the turnaround with a brilliant try just after the restart. He then set up another attack that ended with Leroy Carter scoring a sensational try. Two penalties from McKenzie pushed the Chiefs further ahead.

The Crusaders, on the other hand, were shut out completely in the second half. Despite strong efforts from Tamaiti Williams and Cullen Grace, they couldn’t break through the Chiefs’ defence. Errors and penalties hurt their momentum.

Wallace Sititi, who had a standout game, sealed the win with a powerful try in the 74th minute. McKenzie added five points from the tee, finishing with 15 points overall. Luke Jacobson led from the front with a captain’s knock, while players like Narawa and Wrampling shone in attack and defence.

The Chiefs' win breaks the Crusaders’ four-game winning streak. The visitors now move to 9-3 for the season and sit alone at the top of the table as they head into their bye week. The Crusaders drop to 8-3 and will now prepare to face the Waratahs in Sydney in Round 14.

Although Crusaders vs Chiefs started with a thrilling contest, full of moments, the Chiefs’ second-half brilliance proved too much in the end to silence the Christchurch crowd.
