Beach Haven home targeted by fake council surveyor
Auckland Council has confirmed that while official building inspectors and emergency management teams are assessing storm-affected properties, they always carry proper identification and do not operate without prior notice.
The council also informed that 16 building inspections and officers in uniform and with I-cards have been carried out in the Mt Roskill and Sandringham areas, and around 50 further inspections will take place this week across the region
Residents have been advised to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to represent the council. "You can call the council at 09 301 0101 for verification if you have concerns about people impersonating Auckland Council staff," the spokesperson for the council stated.
Cyclone Tam has caused significant disruptions across the North Island. In Auckland, some areas experienced power outages lasting up to four days.
Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to the police, and residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and exercise vigilance when approached by individuals claiming to offer assistance
