Tauranga is a coastal city located in the Bay of Plenty region on the North Island of New Zealand. It is one of the country’s fastest-growing cities, known for its port and beaches.
Police received multiple reports about a crash on Crombie Street in Bellevue that brought down power lines across the road. A police spokesperson said, “The car left immediately following the crash and has yet to be located.”
Emergency services, including Fire and Emergency New Zealand, responded promptly to the scene.
PowerCo, the electricity distribution company, reported that approximately 989 properties were initially without power. Efforts to restore electricity were underway, with an estimated restoration time of 9:45 PM on Monday(April 21)
Authorities are seeking information from the public to identify the driver responsible for the incident.
Residents in the affected area are advised to exercise caution around downed power lines and to report any information that may assist in the investigation.
