Auckland FC defeated Melbourne Victory 2–0 at AAMI Park on April 19, 2025, strengthening their position at the top of the A-League Men standings.

The match remained goalless in the first half, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to convert.

Auckland FC’s Cam Howieson, replacing the injured Felipe Gallegos, had a notable chance but missed the target after receiving a pass from captain Hiroki Sakai.


The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Francis De Vries assisted Louis Verstraete, who scored with a side-footed shot. The goal was reviewed for a potential offside obstruction but was upheld.

Melbourne Victory attempted to respond, but Auckland FC goalkeeper Alex Paulsen made crucial saves to maintain the lead. In the closing moments, Guillermo May added a second goal, securing the win for Auckland FC.

Following this victory, Auckland FC leads the league with 46 points from 22 matches. They are followed by Western United FC with 41 points and Melbourne City FC with 40 points, both also having played 22 matches.
