Auckland FC hold Sydney with nail-biting performance

Auckland FC drew with Sydney FC in an A-league match on April 12 held at the Allianz Stadium. Adrian Segecic, the midfielder for Sydney FC scored twice whereas Logan Rogerson and Francis De Vries scored for Auckland as the match ended 2-2.

Auckland FC was involved in yet another tie after facing a number of draws in the last few matches. Auckland FC with a 12-match winning streak is on top of the table.

Segecic started the attack with the 20-year old from Sydney scoring a brace 20 minutes apart, leaving gaps in Auckland's defence.


Auckland, the visiting team, brought it game on in the second half, with goals from de Vries and Rogerson.

Joe Lolley of Sydney FC attempted a goal which drew a great save from Alex Paulsen.

Sydney’s coach Steve Corico made a change in his original XI by replacing injured Max Mata with Cam Howieson.

Auckland truly brought the heat in the second half and could have made it their night, when Neydon Moreno’s shot rattled the post, leaving Sydney’s goalkeepers gawking.

Auckland FC, the table toppers have 13 wins and 8 losses, while Sydney FC who stand 6th have 9 wins and 7 losses.

Sydney FC was leading in ball possession with 54% ball control and made 366 passes, while Auckland had 46% possession with 315 passes.

Auckland FC face Melbourne Victory, who also won today against Wellington Phoenix on April 19. Sydney FC face Lion City Sailors on April 16 on the second leg of their semifinal.
