Nepal to get $3.7 million aid from Japan

Japan has pledged an aid of $3,715,00 to Nepal to meet food requirements of its drought-hit northwest region.

KATHMANDU: Japan has pledged an aid of $3,715,00 to Nepal to meet food requirements of its drought-hit northwest region.

"The assistance will help Nepal government to procure rice and distribute in the regions facing the food deficit," sources in the Japanese embassy here said.

An agreement to this effect was signed between Secretary, Finance Ministry (Nepal), Vidyadhar Mallik and Japanese ambassador to Nepal, Tatsuo Mizuno at a function in the capital yesterday.

Nepal Food Corporation will deliver the food assistance to the needy population.
Several districts in North-West region of the country are facing food deficit because of drought this year.
