Mitsubishi Motors developing low cost car
Mitsubishi Motors <7211.T> is working on developing a low cost car to be sold in China and Thailand as well as the European market, for a targeted launch date of 2010, the company's top executive said on Sunday.

BEIJING:Mitsubishi Motors <7211.T> is working on developing a low cost car to besold in China and Thailand as well as the European market, for a targeted launchdate of 2010, the company's top executive said on Sunday.
President Osamu Masuko,speaking to reporters at the Beijing Auto Show, said the car would be based on a660cc vehicle platform that is currently used only in Japan.
Masuko also said the company'sinitial 2008 U.S. sales target would be tough to meet, citing the latestindustry forecasts for total sales volumes to be as low as 14.5 million vehiclesthis year.
Mitsubishi hadinitially forecast its U.S. sales to fall by about 10,000 units this year.
