DUBAI: Mideast cell phone retailer Axiom Telecom has reached a distribution deal with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion aimed at boosting sales of the handsets throughout the region.

Axiom says the distribution agreement covers Axiom's own shops as well as wholesalers and other retailers. It includes the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Axiom this week laid out plans for an initial public offering to sell up to a 35 percent stake in the company, which is owned by two family firms and Dubai Holding, an indebted conglomerate controlled by Dubai's ruler. It hopes to float its shares around Dec. 9 on the Nasdaq Dubai.
