US hamburger giant McDonald's announced plans on Wednesday to set up 175 new outlets in China this year despite the global economic crisis, state media said.

BEIJING: US hamburger giant McDonald's announced plans on Wednesday to set up 175 new outlets in China this year despite the global economic crisis, state media said.

The opening of the new outlets will create 10,000 jobs and be McDonald's biggest expansion ever anywhere in the world, the Xinhua news agency reported, giving no other details.

Chinese state media had previously reported that McDonald's planned to open 150 outlets in China in 2009.

McDonald's public relations officials were not immediately available to comment.
