KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's top lender Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) will likely get a new chief executive on July 1, pending central bank approval, a business weekly reported on Saturday.

The Edge, citing industry sources, said Maybank is believed to have nominated Abdul Wahid Omar, currently chief executive of state phone company Telekom Malaysia, to replace Amirsham Aziz, who is expected not to renew his contract when his term ends on June 30.

Maybank officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

Amirsham has held the top post since 1994.
