Madoff lawyers appeal jailing: US court

Wall Street fraudster Bernard Madoff's lawyers have filed an appeal against the decision to revoke his bail, a US appeals court said Friday.

NEW YORK: Wall Street fraudster Bernard Madoff's lawyers have filed an appeal against the decision to revoke his bail, a US appeals court said Friday.

A hearing date on the appeal is currently been considered, said a spokeswoman for the second circuit US Court of Appeals in New York.

"We hope to have a date by the end of business today," she said.

Madoff was jailed Thursday immediately after pleading guilty to defrauding investors of billions of dollars in a giant Ponzi scheme.

Madoff, 70, had been free to stay in his luxury New York apartment between his arrest in December and his plea hearing Thursday. He was led from the courtroom in handcuffs after pleading guilty.

His sentencing is set for June 16.
