Japan's unemployment rate held steady at 3.8% in December

Japan's jobless rate held steady at 3.8 per cent in December from the previous month, suggesting companies were willing to add labor despite uncertainty about the Japanese economy.

TOKYO: Japan's jobless rate held steady at 3.8 per cent in December from the previous month, the government said Tuesday, suggesting companies were willing to add labor despite uncertainty about the Japanese economy.

The December figure was better than the 3.9 percent rate forecast in a survey of economists by Dow Jones Newswires and the Nikkei.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said the total number of jobless was down 130,000 on year, marking the 25th consecutive month of decline.

The rate dropped to 3.8 per cent in November after registering 4.0 percent in both September and October. However, analysts say the improvement pace of the employment figures may slow down ahead.
