Japanese industrial output plunged a record 8.1 percent in November from the previous month as factories slashed output to cope with recession, official figures showed Friday.

TOKYO: Japanese industrial output plunged a record 8.1 percent in November from the previous month as factories slashed output to cope with recession, official figures showed Friday.

It was the biggest-ever drop since the ministry of economy, trade and industry began releasing the statistics in 1953.

Market forecasts had been for a decline of 6.7 per cent, after a decrease of 3.1 per cent in October.
