Japan's ANA says annual net profits almost double

All Nippon Airways, Japan's second largest carrier, said on Wednesday its annual net profit roughly doubled as gains on the sale of its hotel chain more than offset the impact of soaring fuel costs.

TOKYO: All Nippon Airways, Japan's second largest carrier, said on Wednesday its annual net profit roughly doubled as gains on the sale of its hotel chain more than offset the impact of soaring fuel costs.

The group made net earnings of 64.14 billion yen (617 million dollars) in the 12 months to March, up from about 32.6 billion in the previous fiscal year, a company statement said.

The sharp rise was largely because All Nippon Airways, or ANA, sold its hotel chain to Wall Street giant Morgan Stanley in a multibillion-dollar deal.
